Mr. Hays is President & Chief Executive Officer of Synbiotics Corporation, a veterinary immunodiagnostics company based in Kansas City, Missouri with subsidiaries in San Diego, California and Lyon, France. In his six year tenure as President, he has reorganized the company, restructured and reduced debt by two-thirds and developed a clear strategic direction for the business including rejuvenating the R&D and Sales & Marketing departments and motivating the employees to execute the strategy. As a result of his efforts to lead the company in a new direction, Synbiotics Corporation launched a “farm-side” avian influenza test in January 2006. It is the first USDA-approved test on the market and has been accepted by several governmental organizations throughout the world (FAO, USAID, and OIE) as an important tool in surveillance of bird flu. Synbiotics is also pursuing FDA approval of the influenza test for human use.
Mr. Hays has 26 years of experience in the animal health field and possesses a passion for motivating and leading people to grow businesses. His track record throughout his career at Coopers Animal Health, CIBA-Geigy Animal Health, Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. and now Synbiotics Corporation includes regularly achieving growth budgets by developing strong teams and impelling them to peak performance. Mr. Hays is recognized within the industry for his proven strengths in strategic planning and marketing and is a recognized innovator in channel and distribution strategies.
During his nine years with Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc., he was able to increase sales revenues four-fold and bring the company to record profitability. He successfully integrated the acquisitions of Fermenta Animal Health & NOBL Laboratories in the US, established new subsidiaries in China and the Philippines as well as a joint venture in Japan. Mr. Hays also established and managed animal health diagnostic centers in Ames, Iowa and Muenster, Germany and participated in the expansion of production and R&D facilities in St. Joseph, Missouri. Mr. Hays worked to establish CIBA-Geigy in the animal health field by establishing a unique distribution strategy as they launched their first product.
Mr. Hays is a member of the National Agri-Marketing Association and has served as member to the American Veterinary Distributors Association, National Cattleman’s Beef Association and as board member of the Animal Health Institute. A native of rural upstate New York, Mr. Hays completed his BS Ag in Animal Science from the University of Missouri-Columbia; Alberta, his wife, and he have been married for 26 years and they have a 23 year-old daughter and a 14 year-old son. |
